What Kills Mites and Bed Bugs?
If you've got a problem with mites and bed bugs, then you need ways to take care of the problem quickly and effectively. It helps to first understand what bed bugs and mites are.
Bed bugs are small, brown, flat insects that feed on the blood of living animals and people. They prefer to live close to their feeding area, which is commonly a person's bedroom. Bed bugs love to hide in upholstered furniture and mattresses, and prefer to feed on sleeping creatures. This is why they're called bed bugs -- although they can be found in other areas besides beds. A bed bug bite will often leave a bump or welt that's itchy and resembles a mosquito bite. If you go to bed bite-free and wake up in the morning with bites, then it's probably bed bugs. Examine your mattress and furniture for signs of these pests, which include dark spotting caused by excrement.
Another annoying and potentially harmful household pest is the mite. Commonly referred to as dust mites, these microscopic creatures love to hide in fluffy carpet, pillows, bedding, and furniture. Dust mites can cause allergic flare ups and can be especially harmful to persons with asthma. Mites don't feed on blood like bed bugs, preferring to eat dead skin from humans as well as the carcasses of other tiny household pests.
If you've got a problem with either of these pests, you may be wondering -- what kills mites and bed bugs? There are various ways to control and eradicate these pests. One thing that's crucial to prevention and control is regular vacuuming. You may also want to try steam cleaning. Also, as soon as you realize you have a problem, you'll need to remove all bedding, furniture, and items from the infested area and do a thorough laundering.
There are currently safe pesticides on the market that can be used to kill mites and bed bugs. You can try administering these treatments yourself, or hiring the services of a qualified professional. How severe your infestation is will determine whether you can handle the problem on your own, or if you need an exterminator. These critters breed profusely, so it's important to get rid of them as soon as you possibly can. Bed bugs especially can spread from one area to another, including from room to room and apartment to apartment.
Prevention is important when it comes to these pests. By taking a proactive role, you can control and prevent an infestation that can become a serious problem.
