Herbs to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are insects that are a rusty brown in color, about a quarter of an inch in length, with flat bodies that resemble ticks and cockroaches. However, unlike roaches, bed bug infestation has nothing to do with how clean or sanitary an area is. After World War II, due to the pesticide DDT, bed bugs were virtually unheard of in our society. However, DDT was banned because it was found to be unsafe. This, as well as increased immigration and overseas travel, has led to a renewed level of bed bugs in North America.
So how do you know if you've got bed bugs? There are several telling factors. One is waking up with itchy, red bites that are similar to mosquito bites. Another is the appearance of dark spotting on your mattress or furniture, which is actually dried bed bug excrement. It's important to take care of bed bugs before they multiply and spread.
If you're like a lot of people in today's environmentally conscious society, you might be looking for natural treatments like herbs to get rid of bed bugs. Luckily, there are ways you can take care of your infestation problem without the use of pesticides that could be harmful to humans or animals. There are various herbs that you can use to help control your bed bug infestation. Try using these herbs as a liquid spray or sprinkle them around the infested area.
Black Walnut: Not an actual herb, black walnut can be used for a variety of purposes, including getting rid of bed bugs. You can find natural pesticides created with black walnut, or you can try making your own.
Garlic: Pungent garlic, while unpleasant for some to smell, can be an effective remedy against household pests. By spraying the infested area with a garlic infused natural pesticide, you can repel such pests as mites, ants and bed bugs.
Cayenne: Cayenne is a common herb used in spicy foods. But did you know that pests hate it? By spraying or sprinkling cayenne in areas where you find pests, you can help control them.
Mint: Mint is another herb that has been found helpful in repelling and getting rid of pests like bed bugs. Also, mint is much more pleasant to smell than garlic and cayenne, making it an ideal remedy for use indoors.
Lavender: Another fragrant repellant is lavender. By strewing lavender and spraying a lavender infused pest repellant, you can help get rid of your pests like bed bugs.
With the popularity of herbal remedies in our society, you can often find repellants and insecticides that are made from all-natural ingredients and specialized blends of safe herbs proven to take care of household pests.
